Spalted Wood Vase. One of my favourite shapes. This vase has a copper insert which I oxidised so that you get a surprise when you look inside - it's that lovely blue/green verdigris. My original idea was to have the copper extending above the wood but it just didn't work - the wood and copper were both competing with each other which is why I now use glass test tubes instead of copper. There is a stopper which I've epoxied in at the bottom of the copper tubing to allow water to be stored without leaking into the wood. Part of the charm of this vase is the spalted marks on the wood. There are even borer holes and a couple of cracks and these are all a part of the woods history.
